This is not the first time that Athos has seen Aramis bury tension beneath good cheer, and he is grateful for the man’s talent, as indicative as it is of the unsettling nature of their situation. It’s easier, then, to watch him dash about than to meet Porthos’ eye.

He peers at the contraption that has been set before him, and he shakes his head. “How many strange wonders do you intend to show me tonight?"
