Athos groans in pleased surprise, pressing his forehead against Porthos’ as his heart begins to beat faster in response to Aramis' touch and his words. His heart swells at this chance to look down at Porthos, to see him smile, and see his eyes filled with warmth, and not the hurt, or anger, or disgust he has expected to see there of late. Athos is not sure he deserves Porthos’ forgiveness for whatever crimes he may commit in the future, but he has grateful to have gotten it - or something close enough.
